Vocab Term: Digital Poetry
Definition: Poetry is largely defined as a heightened means of communication that largely involves meaning that is introspective, retrospective, and there is sometimes a particular narrative focus. A lot of poetry largely deals with the invocation of words that expresses certain sensations or images which explode with descriptive emotional energy. The format of how a poem looks is also important, and because of the digitization of poetry – poems now appear to be textually different. When it comes to writing a poem, certain digital functionalities are now taken into consideration.
Source: Certain digital functions need to be taken into account when archiving a collection of poems. The format of a digital poem may not be a close enough approximation to the physical copy. “…[I]n the frame of the new media paradigm-understood as an experimental artistic environment for establishing new (spacial and temporal relations between text components, as well as for a bold experience of unusual meanings” (Flores 156).
Commentary: I’m primarily interested in digital poetry because its a new topic of exploration. Digital poetry not only encompasses the formatting of poems, but also introduces an interesting intersection of applying poetry to certain aspect of digital communication (such as coding).
