Hypertextuality

Vocab Term: Hypertextuality

Definition: Represented by links that allow users to visualize other interrelated content. This is a method of linear reading where an ensemble of related information is provided for the reader. Hypertextuality allows users to further explore information that is contextually related.

DH Source: This method of linking information isn’t anything new. “…The concepts of multilinear reading, interrelating, annotating, and cross-referencing, as well as the link itself, date back over one thousand years” (Ensslin 259).

Commentary: I’m mostly interested in ways links can be used to increase aspects of interactivity. By exploring aspects of interactivity using elements of hypertextuality, different ways of communicating an assortment of narratives emerge.
